The Netherlands is ready to step up its leadership in the international offshore wind market.
As a long-term and dedicated Research, Development & Demonstration (RD&D) partnership, GROW's strength lies in its ability to run focused, sequential and complementary RD&D activities. It concentrates on those activities that are most valuable in supporting the consortium partners in reaching the consortium's objectives. It also exploits synergies between projects and helps partners to commercialize innovations faster and more efficiently. As a result; GROW accelerates innovation in offshore wind.
Along eleven RD&D program lines GROW pursues its objectives. These program lines cover the full value chain of offshore wind. Research takes place across the majority of technology readiness levels (TRL), from academic research in TRL 2 to testing and demonstration of large systems in TRL 8. Cooperation in GROW ensures that innovations steadily advance towards commercialization.
Offshore wind is indispensable in the global energy transition and helps to realize CO2 emission reductions. In the long run, it will become an essential part of the energy system of North West Europe and other regions.
The Dutch offshore wind sector is ideally positioned to overcome the challenges of the offshore wind roll-out and can deliver new technologies on a large scale. Important strenghts of the Dutch offshore wind sector are:
- The Netherlands has a strong industrial and knowledge base in wind technology .
- The offshore industry is characterized by close cooperation across the value chain.
- The Dutch North Sea provides a perfect home market close to loads in north-western Europe.
- Dutch ports are ideally located to serve offshore projects.
GROW builds on this position to further strengthen leadership in offshore wind.
