SIMPLECS project to advance silent monopile installation in challenging soils
New jetting and vibro solutions aim to unlock cost-effective, low-noise offshore wind foundation installation
In January the follow-up project called Silent Installation of Monopiles in prevailing Clay and Sand soils (SIMPLECS) started. It will demonstrate a new jetting solution, a new vibro solution, and an optimal combination of the next-level Vibrojet® for very high-strength clays and very dense sands. Many future European wind farm zones, including Dutch sites such as Nederwiek, Doordewind and IJmuiden Ver, face subsoil conditions that challenge conventional installation methods due to noise limits and early refusal.
SIMPLECS will develop and test new jetting-based installation solutions for clays and sands, with prototypes and laboratory work focusing on driveability, bearing capacity and predictive geotechnical models. The project builds on earlier Vibrojet® developments and aims to extend the technology’s applicability to more complex offshore conditions while reducing environmental impact. Results will support reliable, scalable deployment of quieter and more cost-effective monopile installation techniques and provide integrated designs and recommendations for the future offshore applications.
